For the first couple weeks after your child is born, they will have the leftover portion of the umbilical cord attached to what will be their belly button. The hospital usually has a clamp on this for a few days until you leave but then you go home with the leftover piece.

And you have to clean and disinfect this several times a day for about two weeks until it falls off. Normally every time you change the diaper per our pediatrician.

Ok yes. It is a bit gross, but also totally necessary to ensure there is no problem. It is fast to do and actually not a big deal. So learn how to do it!
